Being new to web design, I'm not familiar with what image formats work best for what purpose. I've been using the .gif format for images with transparent backdrops (headers, icons, etc.), but the edges of the content always look pixelated when I open the HTML document. Is there a better format, or (heaven forbid!) am I doing something wrong in the process of making the transparent GIF?

My tools:
Image Software - GIMP
Web builder - Notepad
Browser - Firefox

Thanks!

Try using the png-8 format. Works in all modern browsers.
