It is free, and if you post links to your site on existing sites, the search engines will follow. google does the most traffic, but msn offer the fastest start (google take ages to rank your site).
:)

Lots of web hosting companies offer free submission to all the major search engines, and it's automated - buy your domain name and press GO! :D

Its actually recommended that you do not submit your site to Google but you let Google find you.

The way you do this is to get links in from relevant sites preferably with a pagerank higher than 5. If you get a site with a page rank of 7 or higher linking to you your site will be indexed that day. (although the page rank may not reflect this).

I found this article which I found really interesting about getting to the top of Google. I've tried it but I have no budget as my site is a hobby site and I can't justify spending the wife's shoes budget on my site.

There are three articles and they are a bit different from the normal optimisation articles I have read and I was very intrigued and gave it a go and whilst I've not hit top spot for any of my targeted keywords my traffic has gone up from 50 visits a day to 250 a day within 2 months which I'm quite happy with.

Suggest you add a link to a free directory as a start. There are plenty in Lancashire. I know this as I am also from the NW.

Also, assuming you are talking about the site listed in your profile you would best to convert some of the text saved as graphic to real text that can be read by the search engines. This will also help with optimisation.

It's free to submit your website to any search engines,

Please enter your full URL, including the http:// prefix. For example: http://www.google.com/. You may also add comments or keywords that describe the content of your page. These are used only for search engine information and do not affect how your page is indexed.

Every search engine have options to submit new websites. you can go through that otherwise you contact professional SEO Services experts, For example you can visit http://www.seoservicesgroup.com/contactus.html

You should try submitting your websites to some high ranking websites. Certain websites will always show on top for example if you search for "internet directory", "search engine optimization directory", marketing etc etc.

You need to submit your website to the right category. You should also try submitting your website to DMOZ directory. Both google and yahoo pick up websites from dmoz, so rush to DMOZ first 8)
