I am attempting to create a brand new layout for the website I co-own. I am starting from scratch. For our menu, we would like to have an image map that when you highlight one of the links, a drop down menu appears and when you move away, it closes.

I have the image map already prepared (thanks to GIMP). What do I do in order to get a drop down menu from a link that is mapped?

If that makes sense. Forgive me, I'm quite flustered as I've been searching the internet for the past hour and a half and found nothing. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right spots. haha.

Any advice would REALLY be appreciated. If I can't do an image map, that's fine, but I would prefer to as it's easier for me. Here is the image I'm using, an example would be that we would like a drop down menu from "elsewhere" that has three sub-categories.

Sorry, IMHO it can't be done with an image map. There are lots of dropdown menus, javascript to pure css but they will have to be styled. From the image you posted it would be pretty simple. Post up the links and someone will point you in the right direction.

I've been searching for something similiar for some time and this is the starting point - although I have not yet found the complete solution:

There are a few forum posts ( try "anylink image map" in google ) which attempt to do this but I have not yet succeeded in making them work properly - agonisingly close but not quite right.
http://www.smartwebby.com/dhtml/drop_down_menus.asp also seemed like it may work but the menus do not work in FF...
