If i want to create a menu (that drops down) like this:

|---------------|
|about us *| |-------------------|
|---------------| | Link1 ........... |

What should i do? It's a gov. website so i would prefer to type the codes myself (with a little help) so i don't incur any legal wraths. (I work here for free and i don't get paid building the website.)

I just need one/two examples, then i'll expand the menu myself. Please[/code]

You can use the menu code from www.dynamicdrive.com. Its a free download. No problem with copyrights. Copy the code as it is. It will have the authors name in it. Keep it there, dont delete that. rest u can make any changes in color, shapes and sizes.
