Posted: Sat Oct 06, 2007 2:43 pm     Why do HTML Codes in a web page show up on Goggle link?

I am novice with HTML but managed to set up a simple webpage through a server. Also, established a Google link by placing a Google code file in the directory.

In calling up the page with Google though the link reveals the title on the page with italic, bold, and break HTML indicators.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks.

Did you use the .html extension?
What editor did you use to make it?

What's a Google Link? If you copied the code into a WYSIWYG editor, maybe sure you copy the HTML code into the HTML code and not the WYSIWYG editor.

Since I am such a newbee to this I used Angelfire to set up a page. Afterwards I went to Goggle and followed their directions (I thought I did at least) on how to get my page indexed using their 'webmaster' site.

Are you referring to an XML sitemap?

Thanks for your reply. Yes, the Google webmaster 'dashboard' sitemap lets you have 2 ways to establish a link. One was to embed the coded string the site automacally generated in your web page.
This is the one I used.

Gotcha. This is to verify that you own the website you want to keep tabs on basically.

I have not used that function, I usually use just a web page. The meta tag though, copy it into Notepad and then copy that from Notepad into your HTML editor and make sure it is HTML.
