Ok I'm not sure if it's in the good section but let's try
I did some HTML before when web pages were basically 1024 and it was easy enough...
Now that display goes from 800 to 2048 it's really hard to make a page to looks good on every monitor.
Here is the basic web site I made (it's in french it's for an University Lawyer student Comitee in Environment)
http://www.ceedum.com
All was good until the President asked me to change the "Team / L'Equipe" part... she would like to have on the left side of the windows a "fixed" list with all the members name so people can click on names and just navigate in it.
So I tried with a Frame but it doesn't look good as the top Frame stays in the "center" of the windows but the bottom part get shifted with the left frame in position...

What can be done ? |

| Are you going to insist on using so many frames? |

Like I said... When I started coding HTML Frames were a good Ideas cause basically everybody had the same display properties, so it was looking great...
I'm looking for suggestions what to do if not using frames.
I'm not insisting on using frames I need Ideas heheh |

I'm not saying frames are a bad thing. Just more complex especially when you want links to work a certain way.
I like plain and simple, syntactically and semantically correctly coded pages which Search Engines like.
If you have any nav menus or sidebar content that may need editing from time to time and appears on all pages, I would suggest looking into Server Side Includes (SSI).
I would normally download your pages to work on, but frame pages require more than the one page. |

Ok I understand that you would like to edit my page... to make it clean and everything...
But that's not what I'm asking
I'm asking for ideas on what to do to make it happen.
So basically On the top it's the "Site Menu bar" all my pages got it already this is working fine.
On this page it's the list of all the members of the comitee.
What I would like it's having a bar on the LEFT side of this page that you can scroll wherever your on this page so you can click on the names of the other members with scrolling to the top of the page.
So my understanding was that my best bet would have been frames ... BUT with the pages wider than 1024 it doesn't look good... is there a way to "limit" a frame to 1024 (cause my pages are made for 1024)OR is there any other way to do that? |

Oh, I definitely don't want to work on your pages. Or anyone else's either. I just do so sometimes to make sure my suggested code works, but many people code their pages so badly it just plain looks bad no matter what you do.
Yes, you can fix your pages at 1024 and exclude or tick off everyone who is viewing your site in a smaller browser window. This forum is designed to 800 x 600 and works very well for everyone. Lots of space on each side, true, for those that have the "biggie" monitors at high res. |
