issue with template using notepad.

i have a problem with my website that needs assistance. making my template was a piece of cake, but i update it a lot. i know DW has this fancy thing where you can create a template and make pages from it so that they update automatically....is there a way to do this with notepad? if so, is there some kind of html or css code i can pop in? i dont want to manually change 100 pages just to add a link. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Server Side Includes (SSI) is the way yo go when you need to update many pages.
