Password when you enter a page

I am making a website for my schools latin club. I am using blogger (but am open to suggestions if there are any other really good web hosts with short urls) amd would like to make a password when you enter the site. I have seen sites before that when you try to go to the site, before even showing you the homepage, a pop-up appears and asks you for a username and password. I would like to try to do this. I am using a mac if that makes any difference. A script that I could copy and paste or something easy to set up and maintain would be great. Thanks!

This is about as easy as you can get. Password Protect.Very easy to set up and only needs one line of code per page that you want to protect. You must change you extension to php instead of html though. Once changed you will not be able to locally view the files in a browser as php is server-side code.
Simply remove the one line of code and edit/view, put the line of code back in and upload.
