How to open a window asking to save...

Hi can somebody help me please.

I put a link to open a .pdf file in my site.
When i click on it, it open immediately the .pdf file and dont' ask if i want to save it or only to open it, what kind of html code i have to use that will ask that before to open it directly?
Now i use <a target="_self" href=".......
