Hi - I'm working on a site for our local Zen group... trying as far as possible to code standards-compliantly (XHTML). However, I'm struggling to get column widths to behave in the same way in the two main browsers... you can see what I mean here: http://www.liverpool-zen.org.uk/new2006/index.html

Ignore the rounded corners in FF! They're on the way out...!

I was wanting the left column to be 100px wide and the content column 600px wide, but as you see things aren't working out so well now. Also, the footer div is giving me a lot of problems - broken in both browsers. It's supposed to span both columns with a red 4px solid top border.

[I even tried to do this with tables, but that just brought up other cross-browser issues!!! At least the footer worked...]

Can anyone point out where I'm going wrong?

Why is this so hard???
