vertical frames - i know nothing

having many difficulties. i'm trying to make one large frame on the right side (the main frame) and one that's small (for links).

i read all about the frames - even with the recipes and everything - but i can't figure out what to do. at all.

i don't even know how to create the source.

could somebody give me some ideas?
