Could be the HTML, could be script, could be CHMOD, could be designer error...
I am using a free template design with essentially two columns - a narrow left one and a larger right. I used the free guestbook scripts from http://www.scriptarchive.com/guestbook.html
This lays the guestbook out with one page showing results, and a separate page containing a submit form to add to the guestbook.
I followed all of the instructions EXCEPT I wanted the submit form to appear in the left column and the results (or entire guestbook log to-date) in the right. Here's the page: stgeorgelewis.com/guestbook.html
It's all up on my site live but the posting doesn't work. I don't know if it's because both the submit and results pieces are on the same page or what. I'm sure it could be any number of things as I'm not the most HTML-savvy person.
I'm open for any assistance someone might be able to offer. |

I was unable to get the link to show (the one that gave you the free guestbok script).
But does it say that you need some type of server side code (CGI, ASP, PHP, PERL, .NET, etc) on there and not just HTML?

It does provide a Perl script that is to be placed in the cgi-bin on the server-side.
It says: "The file guestbook.pl needs to be placed in your server's cgi-bin and chmoded read/execute for users of your httpd. (chmod a+rx)"
Using FTP I created the folder cgi-bin and, after uploading the file, I went to properties and set it to this:
The free script is from a site called Matt's Script Archive. |

I have never Perl myself. I'll move the question to that forum, but it sounds like a permission issue possibly. You might contact your hosting company to verify permissions are set up properly and you are using the correct path.

Per Corey's suggestion, I checked with my host provider and they said I needed to upgrade my package to use Perl. After upgrading (more $), the script still is not working and they will not offer me any support on it.
Could someone take a look and see if they notice a problem? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

| Are you still having problems with your guestbook? It doesn't look it, but I could be missing something. You might want to look for a script that supports captchas to prevent spam. |
