Shopping Cart Integration Issues

Let's pretend for a minute, that I know nothing about html, xml, api, tags, tokens, etc. I have a website that desperatley needs other payment options than check, money order, and COD. My provider has integrated paypal, but I don't particularly care for paypal's "keep your money until they feel like handing it over" policies. I want to add google checkout and eLayaway, and any other non Paypal checkout options available on the net that do not cost hundreds of dollars to sign up for. Ok. So, you sign up great! Have a merchant id, GREAT!
Now what?
Seriously!
I have read the integration info for Google checkout. It's written in some foreign language, that they obviously did not teach in highschool during the commodore and apple era.
I need serious help!
I have contacted professional companies, to no avail. Either they want hundreds of dollars or they offer me to sign up with them for my website and start over since they offer preintegrated google checkout. What a pain!
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to start this "integration"? Confused
