I'm trying to install forums on my website, but most of them ask for the Database Name and Password. One of the guys who hosts me can't help me, and the other guy is being very uncooperative, and I cannot get this information from them.

I don't want to bother them more, so my question is this: Are there any forums anyone knows of that don't require that information? Or, alternately, is there a way to get that information without bugging my hosts any more? Thank you.

Most are going to require a database of sorts. You want this actually. Do you have a control panel?

No, I just edit the HTML files in notepad. I'm not sure what you mean, something like Dreamweaver maybe?

Dreamweaver is a WYSIWYG editor, not a control panel. A control panel allows the end user to basically communicate with the server to create email addresses / databases, etc

I see. I don't have one of those. If I was able to install and use a control panel for my site, would I be able to create a database for my forums without having to contact the host?

Usually yes - it depends on the hosting company / control panel.

Ikonboard doesn't need a database. You do need access to the server to set permissions in using *nix.
