I was wondering what the best way (or any way, for that matter) to obtain a credit card number from a customer through a form is. I'm not really too adept in coding forms and all of the stuff that goes along with them, but my boss is having me put together a site for our sign business and he wants that to be part of it.

Basically what I need to know is a safe way to get someone's credit card number in a form.

my best bet would be to NOT write your own form if you are using information such as credit cards, but to search google for one that is pre written. unless of course you are incredibly good at coding in php, asp, or any other server side language... when dealing with credit card numbers, etc it is smart, if not mandatory, to use 128 bit encryption.

You need to use a payment electronic gateway (like LinkPoint, Authorizenet.com, Verisign) to help you verify the transaction. You also need a merchant account as well to accept credit cards.

You can not accept credit card numbers via email / plain text. This would actually cause you to lose your merchant account and potentially never be able to get another one

you could even use paypal.com, they have lots of tools for adding forms to sites, if you use them.

The biggest convenience that many people have utilized the internet for is online shopping. Unfortunately, as the amount of online purchases rises a looming inconvenience that also grows is credit card fraud and identity theft.
