CSS: Firefox and IE disagree (of course)

I have a navigation bar created that was tested using Firefox. Checking in IE there're width problems.

http://www.freewebs.com/dunomous/index.htm in Firefox, then again in IE and you shall see what I mean

I don't want to try and use overflow:hidden, as I'm using overflow for part of the site.

any suggestions for a fix?

I am having a hard time seeing the problem you speak of and I checked it in both browsers. Please Explain your problem a little more clearly and what you want to happen. As a side not, I would be very careful using those :hovers together with a list style elements. I tried that, and as I see on your website, the hovers are very glitchy and Mozilla Firefox completely ignores your second bullet. Page looks like it will look nice when its done though.

IE might be in quirks mode because there is no DOCTYPE being used
