How can I create a webpoll? I know I need some sort of 'server side language' or something like that. I have no clue, really. I just want a simple poll that will let people vote on something, and then show the results (meaning what other people have voted).
How can I do this? |

You are correct that you need a server side language (ASP, .NET, PHP, etc) to communicate to a database (MS Access, MSSQL, mysql, etc).
Bravenet probably has some free options that you might check into, like Bravenet Vote Caster that might be suited for you.
Otherwise, you could check into Hotscripts for some different polling scripts as well depending on what your server will support.

Yes, actually, I tried a Bravenet Web Poll (I've had a bravenet account forever), it would just be useful to know how to do it myself.
So, seeing as I have no clue about anything besides XHTML and CSS, I guess I have not chance, right? |

It all depends on how you learn and if you understand code. I mess with some ASP and I am able to configure it usually enough to blend in with my site.
My roommate never even looked at HTML code, now he almost has one done use CSS and validates.
There are probably a few free ones that you can download and try. Start there.

hello! This is something I can help with for once...so I figured I'd register on up and chime in some (hopefully) useful information.
Firstly, they are correct, you will need some kind of server side scripting to do this best. It could probably be done with Javascript or something in some tricky way - but the best solution at the end of the day would be a server side language. PHP is a very popular one and most webhosts offer some PHP support.
Its a fairly easy language to learn if you wanted to do some looking up yourself and try to create it on your own. If youre looking for something a little bit more "plug and play" check out a site like Codango.com and grab a ready to go script.
Despite all that, its dependant on what kind of langauges your hosting supports - so thatll be the first information to find out!
Good luck
Edit: messed up tags lol |
