How can I make a timeline using HTML?

Do you have an example online somewhere? Chances are the closest you will come to is by using HTML tables, but most timelines have a slanted line, which you would need to use an image for.

If you search on Google "HTML Timeline" And pick the first choice, it gets a great timeline, but I don't know what goes where.
