Hi, I´m new here.

I just looked at the Frame tutorial on this site and tried to check one example (http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/frames/nb_frameset.html) with a Markup Validation Service and it tells me that this example is not valid HTML. Link

Can somebody tell me why?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings

The tutorial is wrong.

Frames are fussy, especially when validating.

Here is a valid frameset
Code:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
</head>

<frameset rows="*,*">
 <noframes>
    <body>Your browser does not handle frames!</body>
 </noframes>
   <frame src="pagea.htm" name="topFrame" >
    <frame src="pageb.htm" name="mainFrame">
</frameset>
</html>

Notice that the DOCTYPE is for Frameset.
Attributes such as Frameborder, Framespacing etc. are not valid attributes.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Can I use the attributes Frameborder and Framespacing? Which browsers, which OSs accept these and which do not? I really don´t want my frames to have borders. Is it a bad idea to use these attributes? Or is there another way I can get the desired effect?

Help would be appreciated.

Greetings

those attributes should be accepted in most browsers, but it won't validate.
