I am self-taught and started from scratch learning HTML and using Internet Explorer's Notepad about 5 years ago. It still suits me just fine but my daughter wants me to learn how to use Dreamweaver or FrontPage because she wants me to help her in designing business style Websites.
She keeps telling me it will also save me a lot of work doing my own website but when I stare at the screen with one of these programmes I'm blowed if I know where to start. I have downloaded trial versions of both but am at a complete loss everytime I try to use them. My head automatically goes into basic HTML mode. Has anybody else had this problem or am I just plain dumb? If you have any solutions I would really appreciate hearing from you.

She says it will save you time? Is she taking into consideration that you do not know how to operate either program & you have to learn how to operate one of them?
If you are comfortable in typing it all out & of course copy & paste - do that.
A lot of people who are not web designers actually learned HTML from FP & DW. They learned what code to take out etc.

I had the same problem (though at school). I was told to create a website using dreamweaver. I found it so hard I ended up using html because it was so confusing trying to do simple things i could do so easily with html. I found that you could double view (html and design view) which means you can do some things on the dreamwaever programme and some in html when you cant work out how to do it with dreamweaver.
